I thought this cartoon was kinda funny
Along with Sex Education comes drug use and abuse amoung children and teens. I often wonder if there is a corelation between sexual activity and drug use. If teens are sexually active younger does that increase thier chances of experimenting with drugs and alcohol, or vice versa? I think that when teens and children are exposed to drugs and alcohol at a young age either through friends, parents or TV they are more likely to experiment at a younger age casuing them to sometimes make poor decisions in other areas of life.
I strongly believe that the biggest influence in young adults lives is thier friends, and some may disagree saying that other things may play a larger role (religion, family) and although I belive they are important they simply influence teens in how they choose thier friends, who ultimately have the most influence

I highly agree that friends are the biggest influence in the lives of young adults. Obviously, if their friends are doing drugs, drinking, and/or having sex then they are much more likely to do the same.
As for a correlation between the activities... I'm not so sure. Maybe if they are more succeptible to peer pressure, then their would definately be a strong correlation as many of these activities tend to be found amongst certain groups. Maybe their is a correlation due to the fact that all can be ways of 'rebelling' against parents or society.
(Love the cartoon!)
Although I do believe that there is a correlation between environment and behaviour (nature vs. nuture anyone?) I do not think that this argument should be used as an excuse to not provide sex ed in the classroom. The ability to host a safe forum where students can learn information, dispell myths and gain personal empowerement through education will have a lasting impact. And hopefully by educating whole peer groups together the opportunity to positively change irresponsible and sometimes dangerous behaviours is possible.
I agree that friends are an influence but I also think that the media plays a huge role. Little kids have idols (Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan etc.) and just look at what these 'pop' stars do..... party all night, have a new boyfriend every ficken week, do drugs, drink way too much that it puts them in rehab, go to jail.... So these kids see what their idol is doing and want to be 'just' like them, try new drugs, drink etc.
I would say that media plus friends are the biggest influence in pre-teens and teens for sure!
